Good News

The Gospel

It comes as a surprise to many to learn how very different Christianity is from other religions; at its core, it isn’t about morality, or philosophy, or self-fulfilment. Rather, it’s about news—good news—the greatest news the world has ever heard. In fact, the word “Gospel” literally means “good news,” and it is this news that stands at the centre of the Christian faith.

The good news tells us that God has acted through the person and work of Jesus Christ to save us from our sins and remove the barrier that exists between God and ourselves. Here is a simple explanation of the good news.

We were made in God’s image

A fundamental part of Christianity is the understanding that we are not here by chance. We were created by a Creator to live as human beings with honour, dignity, value and purpose

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27

But our first parents chose to rebel against God’s loving care and design for them and since then we have all been rebels, substituting other things in the place of God in our lives even becoming our own gods.

All People Have Sinned Against God

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

One way to define what sin means is to miss a target by falling short of that target. Sin is primarily an offence against God himself and is encapsulated in the idea thatit is the failure of a person to live the life which God has planned for him or her to live. I have sinned, you have sinned, everyone has sinned, it is universal.

The Price of Sin Is High

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23

The person who lives without God in this life will pay the awful price of an eternity separated from God. The Bible calls this place of separation Hell. Hell was never meant to be the eternal home of mankind, but God cannot allow rebellious people to enter into Heaven. Heaven is the eternal dwelling place of God’s people, and it is a place where God lives in perfect harmony with His people.

God Loves us in Spite of Our Sin

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8

Because of the righteousness of God, man must pay the penalty for sin, or someone who is acceptable to God must pay the penalty. The death of Jesus is the greatest demonstration of the justice and love of God. It is a great love for someone to die in place of a loved one. Christ’s death is a substitutionary and propitiatory sacrifice to God for our sins. It satisfies the demands of God’s holy justice and appeases His holy wrath. It also demonstrates His mysterious love and reveals His amazing grace. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man. There is no other name by which men must be saved.

Repent, Turn Toward God, and Have Your Sins Completely Taken Away

“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.” – Acts 3:19

To repent from your sin means to go in a different direction. It means a change of mind and life toward God. If you are willing to turn to God, then God will restore you to childhood purity. Jesus described this experience as the “new birth.” Your part is to confess your sin, and God’s part is to forgive and restore.

By Grace You Receive His Free Gift (Eternal Life) Through Faith Which is Also from God

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” – Ephesians 2:8

The word grace refers to the kindness and love of God in His willingness to forgive and save. Faith means to trust to a point of commitment. It is not enough simply to just believe in God. You must be willing to give your life to God’s teachings and God’s will. Salvation is God’s gift if you will receive it with a commitment to turn and follow Jesus.

Confess Jesus and Believe That He Was Raised from the Dead by God

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9

The word confess means to acknowledge to God that Jesus is Saviour and Lord, to believe with all your heart that Jesus died on the cross for you and came out of the grave, to believe that He is alive and will change your life as you follow and obey His teachings.

Pray to God and receive forgiveness:

“For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”” – Romans 10:13

‘Everyone’ means exactly that! Everyone and anyone can ask God for forgiveness of sin and turn from sin and follow Jesus.

If you find yourself believing in Jesus and the salvation only he can offer to you, after reading and thinking about these things, pray this simple prayer:

“Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I know You died on the cross for me. I now turn from my sins and ask You to forgive me. I invite You into my heart and life. I trust You as Saviour and will follow You as Lord. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”

This prayer of faith is the beginning of the greatest journey you could ever make. If you contact us and tell us of your decision we can help you on your next steps.
